Episode 7 - Amanda Brazier

Chatt Art is pleased to feature the lovely Amanda Brazier on episode 7 of the podcast!

Amanda is not only one of Chattanooga's rising contemporary painters, but she is also a pigment gatherer, teacher, mother and guide to the best outdoor spots in the Scenic City. This is a person who makes her own paints, papers and materials and even builds the giant wooden panels that she works on... Is there anything she cannot do?

creating paintings that tell...

"the stories of the soil... the stories the rocks within them."

This episode comes to your ears just as her solo show, ‘The Rocks Cry Out’, graces the walls of the John C. Williams Gallery on the Southern Adventist University campus. This exhibit features a series of 100 Watercolor paintings, entitled, 'In Place' that carry a profound testament to history that is extremely moving.

There is a subtle power that seems to live within Amanda Brazier paintings. This intangible quality seems to whisper memories of places you have been and shapes you know you have seen before. This familiar essence is woven through every form and line that flows across a Brazier painting. The compositions expand from simple forms to interlocking linear complexities that unify concept to material seamlessly. The layering and multidimensional quality of these paintings bring a visual longevity that never fails to delight.

These abstract compositions seem to vibrate with life as they offer up images of our surroundings and history. The symbolic vocabulary of shelter and place is expressed in handcrafted paints and materials foraged directly from the environment. This union of concept and material forms a symmetry that seems to reveal the very essence of our experience of home.

"It's amazing what you can see when you open your eyes."
