Episode 14 - Jennifer Kring

Episode 14 turns the tables of Chatt Art!

Sit in on an intimate chat as Cat Collier-Martinez (Ep. 1 Artist) takes on the role of host to discuss the debut of a new collection of artworks from Jennifer Kring (your regular host).

Join in on this special episode where you will get to know your host and her work on a more intimate level and discover the magic of 'The Beautiful Ruin.'

Jennifer Kring joins us for this episode of Chatt Art in the midst of her solo show on display now at The Gallery at Mission Chattanooga. This special collection of never before seen artworks illustrates a personal journey from brokenness to redemption.

'The Beautiful Ruin' is a collection of 24 mixed media works of art. Some of this work is in the form of altered books that create a sort of sanctuary for the message of the work. And other pieces are mixed media canvas works that often incorporate book pages and imagery of birds in various stages of flight as well as architectural ruins.

This body of work functions as a memoir of sorts that not only gives a voice to a personal journey, but also speaks to the human condition as a whole and the problem of pain and suffering. This work seems to carry the atmosphere of this moment in history as we have endured the covid pandemic, civil rights injustices and political distress. This rather heavy subject matter seems to be encapsulated in imagery of architectural ruins that float across the canvas as relics.

The heaviness of this subject matter is often balanced by a sort of silver lining that can be glimpsed in many works. The collection features glimpses of brightness in the distance that allude to a sort of distant hope. It can be seen in the colors of breaking dawn or in beams of light that stream through clouds or birds bursting into flight and delicate gold leaf accents that float across the works. These bright elements seem to speak to the calm that comes after the storm... the beauty that can be found during experiences of hardship and the wholeness that comes after healing.

Join in on this special episode to get an insiders view of Jennifer's, Kringdom Studio, in this moment of artistic release.

This episode is a story of one artist's path to embracing their inner aesthetic and a candid discussion about making art that speaks to the human experience of the good as well as the bad.
