Episode 4 - Alex Loza

The first mini episode of Chatt Art is here!

Episode 4 is a special behind the scenes view of mural making with the incredibly talented Alex Loza.

Alex is one of those people who just seems to be able to do all things... paint... sculpt... teach... and be a voice of unity that can carry across barriers.

He really does have a gift for bringing people together and fostering a wider creative voice.

"Every artwork is a learning experience " - Alex Loza

Alex is a visual artist who moved to the Chattanooga area in 2010 and has proven his mastery of figurative work both in oil painting and sculpture. His work is held in both public and private collections throughout North and South America.

Many of his works can be seen throughout our very own city. Chattanooga's first Latino mural, 'Dreaming Forward,' was a work created by Alex Loza. You can view it at the corner of Broad and Main streets.

"Art brings healing" - Alex Loza

I had the pleasure of chatting with Alex Loza on site at the corner of Chestnut and Riverfront Parkway where he was coordinating a crew of volunteers in the creation of a mural.

This street mural is sponsored by the River City Company and is part of the 1 Riverfront Project, intended to foster economic development and celebration of the arts in the downtown riverfront area.

The mural is available for community interaction through the closing of the street to traffic for the next three Sundays, October 11th, 18th and 25th. On these days the public is encouraged to bring their families to the Riverfront and view the mural, play 'find the turtle', or just grab some pretty stunning pictures.

"Chattanooga is all about making Chattanooga beautiful" - Alex Loza

This episode was a fun departure from our usual Chatt Art podcast format. It was particularly inspiring to see our community coming together safely in this strange time to support the arts. A real shared sense of pride in our city was felt watching mothers and daughters paint together, people helping one another and breathing in the beauty of our city.

What a gift to live in the Scenic City... a city that truly celebrates its' creative voices!

Don't forget to subscribe and like this episode of Chattart. Your support is so very important to us in this difficult time of covid-19.
